EASTERN REGION // ICELAND

iceland

We start our journey to the island of Fire and Ice, nestled in the Atlantic Ocean between Greenland and Europe, on the eastern coast of the country, on a boat tour of the Fjallsárlón iceberg, just before the village Höfn. The boat tour takes you right up to the ice wall that you may find looking a little familiar. It’s the bottom blocks of the Game of Thrones ice wall of the North, with the rest of the wall modelled after those blocks. The rest of the wall is modelled based on this glacier right here! There are several boat tour companies dotting the eastern side of the glacier, with others in bigger or smaller boats, or different icebergs, glaciers and lakes.

Next we journey south east to the black beaches of Reynisfjara and the. unique hexagonal basalt columns. What an amazing feat of nature to produce something so exquisite and uniform, rising out of black sands and topped by succulent green Icelandic grass waving in the cold air. It really is a feast for the eyes! Further down the ring road we stumble on a crashed US navy plane, alone in the dark sands of Icelandic south east coast. Few kilometres away from that we arrive at our destination, Seljalandsfoss and the surrounding falls rising 60m and higher.
